Call to Action!

We can't escape the need to be heard & our real concerns counted! (if we have any!!).  Friends of the EARTH, inform us that; "UK companies are trashing the environment and wrecking the lives of people overseas through their global supply chains - and UK law lets them do it. We need a new law to make them accountable. Sign this Friends of the Earth petition if you agree".  https://action.friendsoftheearth.uk/petition/make-companies-accountable-harm-for-destroying-forests-and-lives?utm_source=whatsapp_share&utm_campaign=%5B2159%5D&utm_medium=share

Hoddam, Woodcockair

Woodcockair. Redstart pair remain at woodland edge with young (at least 2 noted). Second pair down beside the river with at least 2 young (looking 2/3 days older than the pair at the south end of the wood), constant tail twitching. Adults can be very bold with a tic ticking alarm call. So far 2 out of 4 estimated pairs in here have fledged young, looking great. Bill Jamieson.

Great Crested Grebe

After three failed years the Carlingwark (roadside) Great Crested Grebes have at last hatched at least one of four eggs. Seen feeding happily. Barbara Williams.

Redstarts

Hoddam, Woodcockair. Pair of Redstart with newly fledged young this morning at woodland edge. Ssw one young on the bracken but female disappearing with food and coming out with nothing. Watching for 10 minutes at a safe distance. Bill Jamieson.

Quail

RSPB Crook of Baldoon. Quail flushed c0915 from lagoon path. Headed towards airfield. Ivan Lang.

Hoopoe

Saw it briefly c5pm in the garden opposite the play area. I suspect it likes the wetter garden boundary with the burn. Spooked v easily when it saw me walking along the road back to the play area. It flew up into the large oak tree, then towards the school field where boundaries with the same burn. So that would seem to be it's current range looking for food. Sister got a better view! ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜ PJ

Hoopoe

I saw it for around 30 seconds on my arrival at 11am in garden across from children's play park but it flew away over rooftops heading south. Never seen again in the two hours I was there. Colin Kinnear.

Hoopoe

Hoopoe flying near Glencaple swing park this morning. Duncan Irving. Still present in the close & nearby area early evening.

Hoopoe

30th. "I did another tour of Glencaple without seeing the Hoopoe and was back home when I decided to have another look at the grass across from the swing park at the junction of Wardlaw Drive and Great Eastern Drive - and there it was. This was at 8pm. If it's there [tomorrow] you will be able to see it from the roadside. The bird has been seen at several places in the village so it will probably be difficult to locate." Duncan Irving.

Little Stint

Newbie. 29th. Little Stint was with a flock of Ringed Plover. Also 5 summer Turnstone, a single Dunlin and 3 Whimbrel. Bill Jamieson.

Hoopoe

A bird reported in a Glencaple garden, centrally located in the village. Viewing possibilities aren't known & I would strongly advise caution & complete respect for residents privacy should anyone try to find it.
