Mandarins

2 Male Mandarin Duck on the pond in Colliston Park, Dalbeattie. Locals told me today the Mandarins have been at the Park for ages - that was why the Council didn't cut the grass on the island during the Summer!!!! so Birders were last to know! Anna White.

Cetti's Warbler & GWE

1 at RSPB Crook of Baldoon this afternoon. Ivan Lang. 1 also at RSPB Mersehead yesterday 23rd from the Meida Hide & a GWE in the Southwick Burn there today. Anna White.

Black Tern

Still at WWT Caerlaverock east of Saltcot Observatory Tower hide, close where the new pools have been excavated.

Black Tern

1 reported at WWT Caerlaverock this pm. Perhaps diverted by the new groundworks.

Long-eared Owl

1 at Caerlaverock NNR today. Also, at WWT Caerlaverock, 1 Whinchat, 2 Chiffchaff, 3 leucistic Barnacle Geese amongst flocks (1 with similar appearance to Blue (Ed. morph Snow?) Goose, but not). David Brown.  Ed. That's a lot of leucistics with so many at RSPB Mersehead too!

Carsethorn & Southerness

A poor WeBS show suggesting a Peregrine through or human disturbance. I think I just missed a large flock of Knot before counting. A single Bar-tailed Godwit & I think 6 Grey Plover the best birds. Where Carsethorn I was hot, it was cold at Southerness. Some typical for the time of year birds at the point, with a Red-throated Diver, several Common Scoter & 3 Guillemot offshore. A large flock of Knot c5-600 alighted the point briefly. Otherwise, usual Turnstone & Redshank but no Dunlin, Ringed Plover nor evidence of a Purple Sandpiper. Should be on the east coast! PJ

Snow Goose

Single Snow Goose again at RSPB Mersehead today (21st Oct) along with 4 leucistic Barnacle Geese across the site amongst 4000+ BG. Gavin Chambers.
