Cetti's Warbler

CONFIRMED MISINTERPRETATION BY BIRDGUIDES GIVEN THEY DELETED THEIR REPORT I'm not sure whether BirdGuides are misinterpreting messages but, they say ; 22/11 11:45 : Cetti's Wblr, WWT Caerlaverock : singing bird still in reedbed along Peter Scott Trail near visitor centre. PJ

Cetti's Warbler

Seen well (& heard singing and calling) at Caerlaverock NNR at 1020hrs. Same place as 14th November; reedbed south of Hollands Farm. (Note this is not the same bird or place as the reports from Caerlaverock WWT/Peter Scott Trail). Dave Pullan.  Ed. Cetti's is very mobile from my own experience, so it could be the same bird that's been on WWT ground. However, Dave sounds confident it's a second bird. Establishing whether there's 2 birds would be significant. Visitors to both sites simultaneously is required. PJ

Hooded Crow

Well, I've just driven into Dumfries along Brownrigg Loaning to join the A780. While waiting to turn I realised there was a hoodie type on a house aerial. As I turned out of junction it flew onto roof & showed to be a good candidate for pure Hooded Crow i.e. it wasn't an obvious hybrid & everything I saw looked good for a pure bird. Gavin

Looks like Paul D's luckily still got his bird on the roof today (19th) in Glasserton. Very pleasing to know.  I'm moving to the Isle of Whithorn! PJ

Hooded Crow

For the last three of years, there's been a pure hooded crow, mated with a carrion crow and this year producing a hybrid, Gatehouse of Fleet. Regularly visits my garden and is quite bold. David H. Ed. Maybe one of yours then??

Hooded Crow

Hooded crow spotted at industrial estate in Dumfries dipping bread into a puddle. Steven Blackley.  Ed. An egg would be better! ๐Ÿ˜. Is it hybrid or pure?? ๐Ÿค”. Always the question asked in these parts.

Loch Ken +

Other sightings while in the Loch Ken area yesterday: 61 Greenland White-fronted Geese flew into the bay from the Ken-Dee Marshes car park. 2 Shoveler and 1 Tufted Duck were slightly unusual sightings for myself on the loch, as was a Black-tailed Godwit circling over the loch by Crossmichael before joining a flock of Lapwing on the shoreline further north. I flushed 3 Jack Snipe at Kenmure Holms while checking sluices, this is an area not readily accessible to the public. Gavin ps. 15 Little Egret flew out of the Mersehead roost yesterday morning, there's been no sign of the Great White Egret on wetland or at roost. Wetland looking good from Bruiach Hide last few days.

Cetti's Warbler WWT

A lot of people present at Caerlaverock WWT today but no interest shown in the presence of the Cettis Warbler. I stood by the reed bed from 1100 to 1300 and no-one else came to look. Then another stint from 1330 to 1430 and no interest shown. Chris Baines Ed. Sorry to some for the info-merry-go-round. PJ

Cetti's Warbler - WWT Caerlaverock

Terrific news from WWT that the bird is out & loud around the Sir Peter Scott Trail at the moment. However, it's apparently been present & shouting out for a couple of weeks! How has the bird not been heard by a visitor in the last couple & I'm struggling to understand why the birds presence on the reserve at least (no need to be specific), hasn't been announced until a time it can no longer be avoided? That's how it looks & I don't see the logic of it at all (if that's what it is?), sorry. So, Shannon Clifford hasn't got the second record for D&G, at all. PJ

Re: Todd's

BirdGuides have misinterpreted the Twitter report of the bird, submitted just before 2pm, as a second record. PJ

American Wigeon

I understand it was seen from the hide looking out onto Wigtown Bay and the bird was seen on the south side of the Bladnoch on a high tide. The bird itself was therefore on the Crook of Baldoon reserve. No doubt a returning bird that will hopefully start using the lagoons to make for easier viewing. Gavin

American Wigeon

Crook of Baldoon, today. However, report says edge of merse, with Wigeon from hide at Wigtown. Therefore, it's Wigtown LNR , surely? Per BirdGuides

Swift Bricks

Responsible human shared-planet dwellers would sign this petition to get done what is a simple but effective method to help swifts. https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/626737 The unbelievable part is that it takes action as "dramatic" as this, in order to put in place a simple building control regulation, which the responsible building professions ought to be doing as a matter of BEST PRACTICE! Black Redstarts - info

The Portpatrick bird was an adult male and taken from Facebook, hence the nearby description as that's how it was posted. The observer also said it was their 3rd in the last week with one in their garden previously. The Drummore bird was a imm/fem type, again a photo put on Facebook yesterday. So it does appear to be a bit of an influx, but only in the west..... Gavin Ed. Thanks to Gavin for shedding light.
