Am Golden Plover & Pec Sandpiper

WWT Caerlaverock

2 GW Egrets on the merse with 10+ Little Egrets, 4000 Dunlin, 700-ish Shelduck. Plenty of Redwings and Fieldfare, 2 Chiffs in orchard, few Whoopers, PFG and Barnacles. Ian Bainbridge.

Stilt Sandpiper

RSPB Crook of Baldoon. Paul Collin has now seen and confirmed it as a Stilt Sandpiper. Gavin Chambers.

Ivan has just rung me to say he has a possible Stilt Sandpiper on the main lagoon to the north of the car park at the far end near the sluice. He suggested it might be a Curlew Sandpiper but appears to have yellow/pale legs, though only viewed with binoculars from tractor. Gavin Chambers.

West Freugh Airfield

65 Greenland White-fronted Geese nearby plus ringtail Hen Harrier yesterday. Via BirdGuides. Plus rumour of a juv American Golden Plover.

RSPB Crook of Baldoon

A red headed Goosander was present this lunch time on the flash north of the car park. Also Great White Egret showing very well on the southern saltmarsh at 13:00. Lots of Fieldfare on the hawthorns with a small flock of Twite around the site. Ivan Lang.

Piltanton Burn

RSPB Ken-Dee Marshes

40+ Greenland White-fronted Geese from the car park and some showing better from layby to the south this morning. Gavin Chambers. 

Threave

Small movement of Redwing and Fieldfare through Gatehouse yesterday.  Highlight of Threave Nature Reserve yesterday - a solitary Tree Sparrow, very little else of any description around. David Hawker. 

RSPB Wood of Cree

Swallow flying around car park, Brambling feeding on road to the north, Woodcock scurrying along roadside, Willow Tit moving around car park and the first Goldeneye ♂️ back on the river this morning. Gavin Chambers. 

Short-eared Owl

Walk in beautiful weather around the golf course at Brighouse Bay. Relatively quiet but a few mixed tit flocks in the woods, Red-throated Diver on the sea and around 40 Golden Plover in arial dispay around Borness. Highlight though was a Short-eared Owl on the hills as we headed back to Glencairn caught in the last rays of the sun before dusk. Chris Sutton.

22/10/23; Corse o'Slakes. 09.05 ♂️Hen Harrier, 5 mins later a 2nd male. Moved on to Gatehouse for shop. Mill on the Fleet - Dipper, 2 Kingfisher, Grey Wagtail. Moving on, a Ring Ouzel by Upper Rusko. 10.45, parked above Cairnsmore NNR, a third ♂️ Hen Harrier. What a shopping trip! Kev & Sue Richardson.

Wigtown Bay

20/10/23. Wigtown Bay from Kirkbride. 12.00-14.00 rising tide. Hundreds of Oystercatcher, Wigeon, Pintail, a few Mallard & Shoveler. 4 Greenshank & 2 Swallow were travelling home via Corse o'Slakes. Woodcock in road just beyond Skyreburn & Merlin above Creetown. Kev & Sue Richardson.

14th. One in willows along burn leading up to Creechan Farm, Maryport, according to BirdGuides.

Auchie Glen & Drummore

Couldn't find a yellow-browed but 1 chiffchaff plus dozens of goldcrests. At the Mull : hundreds of larks moving through plus a trickle of swallows heading south.  Drummore harbour : 3 Greenshank. Mick Whitehouse & Nancy Harrison.

Hoopoe

A Hoopoe has been photographed and reported a few times in the last few days at The Scar/Wig near Kirkcolm, most recently yesterday on the beach/shoreline (Facebook images/report), but also seen on a farm inland to the north. Gavin Chambers.

Mersehead RSPB

A Brambling flew over calling, Peregrine spooking the wetland, Merlin over reedbed, Water Rail enjoying the sun outside the Meida Hide & another single Whooper Swan heading west along coastline. Gavin Chambers.

New Dumfries & Galloway Bird Recorders

News from SWSEIC. "The role of county bird recorder (CBR) for Dumfries & Galloway has changed hands this summer. Paul Collin, who had been CBR (for Galloway and subsequently D&G) for over 30 years, has stepped down, to be succeeded by joint CBRs Gavin Chambers and Alyn Chambers, both experienced local birdwatchers. Eskdalemuir

As the dense [fog] lifted about 12 o'clock waves of Redwings and Fieldfares flew south over Samye Ling. Probable numbers in excess of 2000, perhaps even 3000. David Hawker.

GWE

3rd. Great White Egret flew north over Crook of Baldoon this afternoon. Plus about 40 shelduck flew south, my first of the season since they disappeared to moult. Nigel Willits. 

Wigtown LNR

2 Adult Spoonbill north up the bay at 17:00 and a ringtail Hen Harrier on the merse. Ivan Lang.

Wigeon

Wigeon count at Balyett, Loch Ryan up to about 480. Nigel Willits. 

Grey Phalarope

1 reported on BirdGuides as being seen on the Nith Estuary at Glencaple 26th September. Reported as not present the following day. Definitely slipped through my net as received no notification of the sighting. PJ
