Located where the direct path into the merse turns into the wood, where the stump fence says no access due to peatland restoration. Map location ;  https://maps.app.goo.gl/RHkSkmQ6FciDw7mm6

Golden Eagle

Chris Sutton reports; Golden Eagle. Orchardton 4/3/24 12:05 I had one of my best ever views of a Golden Eagle today in good weather at Horse Isles Bay, Orchardton. Totally took me by surprise to see one in this location. I noticed a large Raptor flying at tree top height coming towards us along the northern bank of the bay. I immediately noted its size and my companion the fingered wings. It veered over the wood giving good views of the underwing (adult I think) . It was then mobbed by 2 buzzard and a raven and the size difference to these birds was obvious. It turned and flew directly above us (C. 60 ft up) and headed south across the peninsula with a raven in hot pursuit. Amazing close view in a unlikely setting. (I have a very grainy picture of it disappearing into the distance being mobbed by the raven). Chris.

Scaup

Gtr Scaup is on Whooper Pond. Currently roosting with a few Tufted. Rumour of a Ruff on Folly Pond but not present between c1130-1600. No raptors in evidence so looking like birds have moved to breeding grounds.
