RSPB Kenmure Holms, Loch Ken

Reed Warbler singing, this morning. The first record for there as far as I'm aware. Slightly odd that it was well up in a hawthorn and cherry tree/shrub rather than the sedge/reed habitat. Gavin Chambers.

Nightjar

26th May. Churring bird from 22:40 at map location, east side of Auchenhay Hill, off Kirkgunzeon road from Caulkerbush. Continuous for several minutes at least, though bird seemed to be moving location. 6 different locations tried but no other birds heard. Usual place produced nothing so perhaps tonight's bird is the same bird from 24th moved ๐Ÿค”. A bit chill mind.  https://maps.app.goo.gl/JiZiATNy294Hy8Pb8 PJ

Carsethorn & Carse Bay

WeBS, c250 Rngd Plvr, c50 Dunlin & 1 Turnstone a surprise. Otherwise virtually birdless. Carse Bay, 1 Whimbrel having a break, perhaps the "regular"? One pair of the nesting Rngd Plvr have hatched 3 fluff balls which is a veritable miracle for the locality but I think there's another with a scrape somewhere around the spit. Good to see the nest zone "cordoned off" & I didn't think the Oystercatchers either would have a chance when I found the 1 egg last time I was there. There's 2 now & the scrape cleverly identified by a local stone artist. Reassuring that someone does actually give a toss! PJ

Solway Firth from Southerness

At least 50 Divers 0730 & presumed all RTD, given the nearest ones were. 1 distant Skua spcs chasing terns but impossible to ID apart from likely Arctic or Pom, though Arctic are renowned for chasing the terns. At HT, the Point had 9 Whimbrel & several Gannet drifted by close in, sat on the becalmed rising ocean. A visit to the 13th golf course tee roost rocks to scan through the Dunlin revealed just 2 summery Sanderling & 7 Whimbrel, probably from the Point turned up before all were driven off by dogs off lead. No respect there then for the wild world diversity David Attenborough would have such non-believers embrace & change their planetary perspective, and therefore such ignorant behaviour. PJ
