Kilblane Quarry (private)

Viewed from Park Burn access track. Low water levels & re-profiled ground have provided shallow waters. Wood of Cree

Brief song from Willow Warbler, near the A714. Ivan Lang. A bird apparently "reported" at Cairnryan on 24th. Reported where isn't given but possibly to BirdTrack or other platforms such as eBird.

Lochmaben

Bleak, dreich weather there today! Single Great White & Little Egret on Castle Loch south shore. Not many duck but a ♀️Goosander amongst c30 Tufties, no Wigeon, 3 or 4 Goldeneye, single Gadwall I think & handful of Teal. Too cold to linger. On Kirk Loch c25 Sand Martin, c15-20 Tufties. PJ

Threave NTS NR

Image
Osprey turned up with fish around 1530 & stood on the nest for a clear view, despite heat haze! Good views of Red Kite too. Pair Peregrine in tree north of castle & later alighting castle top. Couple of Goosander on the river, c12 Med Pipit a surprise. Great White Egret spooked from ditch in front of lower Blackpark Marsh hide & flew northish. For me, a noticeable paucity of small birds & virtually the only bird singing was the ubiquitous Robin. Pitiful spring flora too for a NR. Apart from the iconic Osprey & raptors, where's the spring nature? PJ

RND

Found no RND at Milton Loch. Tufted dispersed around perimeter in small groups but I couldn't make out a RND at all. PJ.  "I was there at 3ish for half an hour today but couldn't find the RND but there were a huge number of water birds mostly Tufted but Goldeneye, Wigeon, Teal, Coot, Shoveler, Great Crested Grebe too so I presume there is disturbance at nearby lochs as this number were certainly not apparent yesterday". Anna White. Gavin Chambers confirmed a "reliable birder on holiday has reported it". See; @dgbirdnews.bsky.social

Re: (Taiga) Bean Goose

I am confident that the bird in the video is a Taiga Bean Goose based on its long neck, the shape of the head and its long beak with a hint of yellow/orange on it. It's difficult to assess the tone of its back and flanks due to the light conditions but they do appear to be equally dark. Best wishes, Duncan (Irving).

Poss Bean Goose

West Freugh GWF survey. Located a couple of geese off the B7077 & the jizz did not strike me as PFG. However the light was bad so kept changing mind depending on the sun. Also 90 GWF, 70 Whooper and a Hooded Crow. Also a Chiffchaff at RSPB Crook of Baldoon. Ivan Lang.
