Ringed bird (Little Egret) at Browhouses, Dumfries and Galloway

Message received regarding the ringed Little Egret I saw recently at Browhouses.  Hi Pete. Thanks very much for reporting a colour-ringed Little Egret seen at Browhouses, Dumfries and Galloway on 18 September 2025. I have it as BTO Ring No.GY74260. In colour-ringing speak it is LAYN(4);RARW(H). For future reference this states the ring positions and colours of rings and digits as: Left leg Above the 'knee' with a Yellow ring with a black (Niger) digit of 4. Right leg Above the 'knee' with a Red ring with White digit of H. I hope that makes sense. The position of the BTO Metal ring on the tarsus is immaterial under this scheme. This egret was ringed in the nest as one of a brood of five at Birks Wood, Rockliffe Estate, near Carlisle, by Thalia Sparke and her ringing team on 14 June 2024. I will forward your report to Thalia and ask her to confirm the ringing details to you along with any re-sightings 'history' there may be of the bird. If you see this egret...
