LRP. Return visit to find 1 adult & 1 juv. Great views for comparison. Per Colin Kinnear.

Way to Cluden

By bus ; Cluden Water. The number 12 from the Burns Statue to Lincluden. runs every half hour. The walk down the river from the Abbey is like a jungle so I walked down the road only ten minutes to cross the field to the river. Chris Baines

Cluden Water

Juv LRP still present this morning & a HOBBY flew through & over water treatment works Lincluden. Per Colin Kinnear.

The old tyres & other rubbish spoil a beautiful spot. Chris Baines PJ ; agreed ๐Ÿ‘ Parking for 1 vehicle here (linked map pin) then over stile & walk alongside river east to the first river bend. Only recommended during "working" or winter daylight hours for vehicle security.  ๐Ÿ‘‰ Green Sandpiper walk

Auchenhay Hill - no Nightjar

No evidence of Nightjars this evening (21st). Plenty midge. There once were roding woodcock guaranteed but nothing from visits this year. A badger though came close but shot off once it caught a whiff of me & my midge spray. Very, very quiet for wildlife. PJ

Balcary Heughs (plus Med Gull)

Balcary today - A wander along the cliff path in the hour & a half or so leading up to high tide. Good numbers of guillemots & razorbills, many close in. No black guillemots spotted though. A few kittiwake & more fulmar still on the cliffs. Out to sea approx 1000 common scoter in various rafts across the Solway. One adult Mediterranean Gull swimming between Balcary point & Hestan island. Regards, Martin Harris

Lesser Redpolls & Stonechats

Image
In addition to the large number of Siskins, Goldfinches & Greenfinches coming to the garden feeders, after an absence of several months Lesser Redpolls are starting to visit. A bike ride along the Kirkgunzeon to Caulkerbush Road, Culdrain produced three different pairs of Stonechats with fledged young.  Chris Baines

Kirkhouse Fishery, Kirkbean

1 golden plvr - some dark underbelly feathers but otherwise non-breeding plumage, c35 dunlin, dozen+ ringed plvr, 2 little egret further west in the bay. PJ

Carsegowan - nightjars

"When we lived at Carsegowan (2007 to 2011) between Newton Stewart & Wigtown, we saw Nightjars foraging over the moss on summer evenings and one September had two over the garden. Worth checking out if you live in the area and best veiwed from the reserve car park. Take penty of insect repellent the deer flies are bad there". Regards, Chris Baines

Nightjars - B793 at Auchenhay Hill

2215 - 2315hrs. Rather cool yet again & only a couple of shortish churrings from maybe 2 birds. Same location. PJ
