Ringed Plover I believe have bred successfully between Hogus & Borron Pts. Carse Bay through the heat haze near HT, 2 Greenshank at least, dozen+ Dunlin & Ringed Plover, several Little Egret. PJ

I pretty much agree with 6 of the 7 comments (as at 6/7/25) left on this topic. https://www.birdguides.com/news/conservationists-to-revive-tern-colony-in-southern-scotland/
A bit off topic.... Had a few hours with the lonesome friendly piper last Saturday. Lighting could have been better. Quite tolerant of humans but def didn't like dogs. Lots of humans with dogs. Bird frequented, or stuck to, to keep out of the way, the harbour "spit". Late afternoon, when tide receding, it fed for a while on the harbour mud along same spit. It runs like a Sanderling but usually quite slow moving. Also "crept" a little at times, reminiscent of a (non-springy) Jack Snipe. Where will it go in a few weeks time? Europe? I wonder. PJ
Last ditch survey again but better late... Bit of a surprise to find half dozen Whimbrel on the foreshore. Ditto 4 Bar-tailed Godwit. Unusual was a single Common Sandpiper but given the numbers in Carse Gut today, not so. An Osprey was eating a fish on offshore mudflats. 3 Ringed Plover, 1 Redshank. 3 flying-in juv Greenshank was pleasing as I got good view of them just off Hogus Pt. Single Little Egret & Mallard & another surprise, a black armpitted Grey Plover dropped in. Hopping on one leg suggested possible injury. So, a bit of a hint of winter in the mix on the last day of June! PJ
Rising tide early pm. No less than 11 Common Sandpiper on the channel edge, a juv Greenshank surprised me & a delightful 3 recently hatched Ringed Plover chicks confirming breeding success in the shingle spit zone of the beach no doubt. Great ๐๐ PJ

We can't escape the need to be heard & our real concerns counted! (if we have any!!). Woodcockair. Redstart pair remain at woodland edge with young (at least 2 noted). Second pair down beside the river with at least 2 young (looking 2/3 days older than the pair at the south end of the wood), constant tail twitching. Adults can be very bold with a tic ticking alarm call. So far 2 out of 4 estimated pairs in here have fledged young, looking great. Bill Jamieson.
