Interesting report received from Ronnie, of Barony Country Foods seemingly.
"Hi Pete, I was up on farmland very near Ae on Monday checking some Tawny Owl boxes & saw my first Wheatear of the year in the same field as 2 Lapwing nests both sitting on 4 eggs. Also 7 Sand Martins feeding high over a small pond. Still no Swallows!
On the subject of Jack Snipe, I ringed a few this year (maybe 6) using a thermal monocular, bright torch and a long-shafted landing net. I have mainly come across them while targeting Skylarks which I have ringed over 100 of this winter.
The thermal has certainly opened my eyes up to just how many bird species depend on stubble fields both for feeding and for roosting.
Regards, Ronnie"
