Swallows - reduced numbers?
Barry O'Dowd has asked the following question on the Twitter account. I can only say that I think there are fewer birds this year, which may be partly due to the difficult weather conditions on migration through Europe. However, I've not read or sought out corroborative evidence to this effect. Anyone have any supportive evidence for Barry's assertion?
"A local farm with great habitats near Kirkcudbright has just 10prs of swallows this year. Last year there were around double this number. What trends have other people found?" BO'D.
Ivan Lang replies; "If you look on the reporting rate on bird track for d & g it indicates that in May it was lower than historical average but by June the rate had increase to above historical average so indicating late arrival of birds."
